For example, the taxes would amount to $10.40 for a $45 starter vape kit.”

BILL TARLING – They use the 20% tax on devices to make it seem like a lesser amount — they omit explaining that the tax would add a $30 tax to a normal 60mL bottle of e-liquid.

“Westminster has become the first city in Maryland to ban vaping in public areas. On Monday, the city council voted to make it official. The new ordinance doesn’t include restrictions on businesses like vape shops or cannabis dispensaries. Each violation after that could be punishable by as much as $500, along with the possibility of being considered a public nuisance, which could lead to other fines or penalties.”

Westminster becomes first Maryland city to ban public vaping

“The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will consider an ordinance Tuesday that would ban the sale of vaping products in the county’s unincorporated areas. The ordinance would build on the county’s tobacco retailer licensing ordinance, which the board adopted last month. Under the ordinance, tobacco retailers must meet requirements for pricing, packaging and retailing density and are prohibited from selling flavored tobacco products. The board is scheduled to consider the ordinance at its 9 a.m. meeting in the Alameda County Administration Building’s fifth floor board chambers, located at 1221 Oak St. in Oakland.”

“Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford announced Tuesday that his office and other state attorneys general are looking into marketing and sales practices of e-cigarette maker Juul. The 39-state coalition, which is being led by attorneys general from Connecticut, Florida, Oregon and Texas, is investigating Juul’s practices of “targeting of youth, claims regarding nicotine content, and statements regarding risks, safety and effectiveness as a smoking cessation device.”

“An order banning the import of electronic cigarettes and all related products was published in the Official Gazette today (February 25). Imports of electronic cigarettes, electronic shishas and all related electronic devices, spare parts and solutions are banned according to a decree by President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It also applies to e-cigarette products that use heating or incineration, including electronic hookahs, regardless of nicotine content. According to the decree, the Ministry of Trade will regulate the entrance of all international passengers possessing electronic cigarettes to the country.”

“Try as they might, politicians just can’t seem to stop contradicting themselves. Take, for instance, an anti-vaping bill up for debate this month from Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ). Pallone says he wants to make smoking less widespread. But his bill would just make it harder for current smokers to quit by enshrining FDA restrictions, like flavor bans on vaping products and the legal smoking age of 21, while also extending the flavor ban to conventional tobacco products and prohibiting online vape sales. In the process, it’ll decimate small businesses in the vaping space—to the benefit of the cigarette industry. That’s a shame, because since vapes hit the market, smoking rates in the United States have taken a freefall. By comparison, rates in comparable nations like Australia, which bans nicotine vaping, have remained stagnant.”

Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act of 2019

“Acclaimed Houston trial lawyer Richard “Rick” Meadow of The Lanier Law Firm has been named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in litigation against e-cigarette maker Juul in California state court. Nearly 100 cases have been filed so far in the Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding, or JCCP, which follows a similar process to federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) by consolidating similar legal claims against a common defendant. The lawsuits are brought by school districts across the state, alleging that Juul created an ongoing vaping epidemic through aggressive marketing of e-cigarettes to teenagers. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ann Jones appointed Mr. Meadow to the committee, which will continue to investigate and develop the claims while also overseeing the coordination, preparation, and presentation of the cases.”
