VAPING NEWS: UNITED ARAB EMIRATES [Digital Tax Stamps]
“The UAE’s Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has made digital tax stamps mandatory for all waterpipe and electrically-heated tobacco products in the country starting from today (March 1). In a statement, the FTA has reaffirmed its decision to ban the import of all waterpipe tobacco and electrically-heated tobacco products that do not bear a digital tax stamp (DTS). As of June 1, 2020, the import, transport, storage and possession of such unmarked excise goods will be prohibited in all UAE local markets”

VAPING NEWS: IDAHO [Tobacco 21 Rejected]
“Idaho lawmakers have rejected legislation raising the legal smoking age to 21. The Idaho Senate rejected the bill with a 22-10 vote on Thursday. President Donald Trump and the Food and Drug Administration approved raising the federal minimum age in December. That makes it illegal for retailers to sell tobacco products to anyone under 21. The Idaho legislation would have outlawed possessing tobacco by anyone 18 to 20. Opponents said they didn’t think it necessary for the state to match federal law.”

VAPING NEWS: VAPING NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR COVID-19 VIRUS
“Electronic cigarettes are unlikely the cause of the COVID-19 pneumonia, Chinese experts said, while the true origin of the virus that has killed more than 2,800 people remains unclear. “The electronic cigarettes are hardly related to the virus. It is not likely to be the reason that caused the COVID-19 deaths,” Zhou Zijun, a professor at Peking University’s School of Public Health, told the Global Times on Saturday. Some online self-media have been connecting the COVID-19 epidemic to the rise in e-cigarette, or vaping, product use-associated lung injury (EVALI) in the US late last year.”

VAPING NEWS: MICHIGAN [24% Vape Tax]
“Michigan lawmakers are proposing a 24 percent wholesale tax on vaping products as part of an effort to set regulatory frameworks around the industry. A six-bill package from a bipartisan group of Michigan senators, Senate Bills 781-786, would set a tax on the products and raise the legal age for smoking tobacco and e-cigarette products to 21 to match up with the federal requirements signed into law in December. If passed, the bills would also require vape retailers to be licensed and prevent retailers from marketing vaping products in a manner that could appeal to youth or young adults. The package would increase fines issued as penalties for people who sell tobacco or nicotine products to a minor.”

VAPING NEWS: EAST BAY TRI-VALLEY, CALIFORNIA [Vape Ban]
“The Tri-Valley area of Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore soon will become the only region in Alameda County to completely ban both flavored tobacco products and e-cigarettes or vape pens from being sold, no exceptions. Last week, the Pleasanton City Council listened to at least two hours of public comment on the issue — an hour alone from middle school students and teens who supported the ban.”

VAPING NEWS: IMPERIAL TOBACCO CANADA [Under Fire For Exposing Anti-Vaping Lies]
“A major Canadian tobacco company has come under fire for a national advertising campaign that appears to downplay the risks of vaping and accuse the media and anti-tobacco groups of intentionally spreading false information. The Canadian Press reported earlier this month that the campaign was under investigation by Health Canada and health officials in Quebec to determine if it violated advertising rules. A spokesperson for Health Canada said this week that it deemed no further action was necessary, while Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services says it has not yet made a decision on the advertisements. The ads show headlines from news stories about vaping, with one of three slogans superimposed over them: “hypocrisy kills,” “quit the lies” and “the dangers of misinformation.””
BILL TARLING — It’s rather ironic that the groups that have been lying and creating deceptively misleading anti-vaping claims are accusing those that called them out about their deceptions.

VAPING NEWS: CONGRESS [HR2339 Flavor Ban Passed]
“A ban on flavored e-cigarettes and tobacco products passed the House Friday but divided Democrats, with some saying it unfairly targets African Americans. The bill, which passed 213-195 and was sponsored by Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Rep. Donna Shalala (D-Fla.), a former health secretary under President Clinton, is intended to curb the rise of youth vaping rates by banning non-tobacco flavors such as mint and mango that public health experts say lure children into smoking.”

VAPING NEWS: PHILIPPINES [Public Ban]
“President Rodrigo Duterte has issued an executive order (EO) against vaping in public places and prohibited the manufacture and sale of unregistered and adulterated electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and tobacco products. Under the new EO, all e-liquids, solutions or refills forming components of electronic nicotine and non-nicotine delivery systems (ENDS/Ennds) or heated tobacco products (HTPs) must be registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

VAPING NEWS: AUSTRALIA [Border & Import Anti-Vaping Crackdown]
“A crackdown is coming on Australians who illegally import nicotine vaping products online, in a move set to reignite debate over whether e-cigarettes are helpful for smokers who need help to quit. The minister has written to the Home Affairs Department seeking a tightening of border control measures to prevent nicotine vaping liquids from entering the country. The Coalition voted with Labor, the Greens and Centre Alliance in the Senate on Thursday calling on the government to “ban the importation of e-cigarette liquids containing nicotine”, provoking an immediate response from pro-vaping advocates.”

VAPING NEWS: WH ADVISORS RECOMMEND TRUMP VETO HR 2339 FLAVOR BAN IF PASSED
“Banning flavours in vape cartridges was never going to satisfy America’s anti-nicotine fanatics and so HR 2339 was drawn up to ban flavours in e-cigarette fluids altogether. That includes mentyhol and it includes all tobacco products too. If presented to the President in its current form, the President’s senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.”
