VAPING NEWS: CALIFORNIA [SB793 Blocks Adults From Smoking Harm Reduction Alternatives]
“Senate Bill 793, which would ban the sale of flavored tobacco products throughout California, on Monday passed the Assembly and now heads back to the Senate. The legislation purports to improve public health, but it actually would endanger the health of people who are trying to quit smoking. The bill prohibits retailers from selling tobacco or nicotine with a characterizing flavor. One of its obvious targets is vaping. It’s also wrong to ban adult-only products to keep them from teens. The state doesn’t ban adult alcohol or cannabis sales based on a similar argument. If SB793 becomes law, the Legislature would eliminate the availability of products that help smokers quit their deadly habit.”

VAPING NEWS: VAPORESSO [PMTA Accepted]
“Vaporesso received an acceptance letter for its first round of premarket tobacco product applications (PMTAs) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Aug. 20, 2020. The acceptance letter came three days after the company submitted its PMTAs. The application received positive comments from the FDA on its preparation, according to the company’s U.S. scientific CRO agent.”
REMINDER: Just because a PMTA submission has been accepted, does not mean it has been approved. It also does not mean the product will be able to stay on the market permanently — it’s only temporary until the FDA process the PMTA and rules a final judgement of APPROVED or DECLINED [which could take mearly days or weeks after the PMTA submission deadline, or a year or more depending on how fast the FDA decides to DECLINE any red flagged submissions. i.e. The battle isn’t over yet

VAPING NEWS: NEW ZEALAND [200k Votes Available For Pro-Vaping Supportive Political Party]
“Aotearoa Vapers Community Advocacy (AVCA) says a massive voting constituency is so far being ignored this election, and if tapped it could mean make or break for a minor party. AVCA co-director, Nancy Loucas, says 200,000 votes are potentially up for grabs for any party which can demonstrate it’s truly smokefree by releasing a vaping policy that is evidence-based and better supports smokers trying to quit deadly tobacco. Ms Loucas says a political party which firmly recommits to Smokefree 2025, wants to rid the country of combustible tobacco, and promises not only a workable vaping policy, but a willingness to engage with the vaping community, will be rewarded on election day.”

VAPING NEWS: CALIFORNIA [SB793 Flavor Ban Advances]
“A bill that aims to curb access to flavored tobacco products cleared a hurdle last week when it passed out of an appropriations committee. The bill, supported by both North Coast lawmakers, would ban the sale of “a flavored tobacco product or a tobacco product flavor enhancer.” Each violation of the bill would result in a $250 fine. The bill addresses a range of flavored tobacco, including menthol, which is often exempted in legislation. In this case, the flavors include “any fruit, chocolate, vanilla, honey, candy, cocoa, dessert, alcoholic beverage, menthol, mint, wintergreen, herb, or spice.” North Coast state Sen. Mike McGuire, one of the senators who introduced the bill, did not respond to a request for comment by the publishing deadline.”

VAPING NEWS: CDC CONTINUES TO MISLEAD FIGURES BY INCLUDING UNRELATED PRODUCT TYPES
“This report includes data from the 1991–2019 cycles of CDC’s national YRBS, a cross-sectional, school-based survey conducted biennially since 1991. Each survey year, CDC collects data from a nationally representative sample of public and private school students in grades 9–12 in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Additional information about YRBS sampling, data collection, response rates, and processing is available in the overview report for this supplement.”
NOTE: The CDC inflates the e-liquid vaping figures by including in the YRBS questionnaire [pg9] “Electronic vapor products include e-cigarettes, vapes, vape pens, e-cigars, ehookahs, hookah pens, and mods.” — i.e. products that are not even the same type or category as “ENDS” e-liquid vape products.

VAPING NEWS: ANTI-VAPING MISINFORMATION HELPED INCREASE TOBACCO SALES
“Worshippers in the United States’ anti-tobacco harm reduction religion have been spouting lies for years – and it’s paying off for them. Cigarettes manufacturers are reporting growth in sales during the COVID outbreak as a smoking generation is being told to fear vaping. Professor David Sweanor recently commented: “We have older consumers, those most at risk, returning to cigarettes from vaping, and that coincides with all of the scare stories about vaping. What we are looking at is a massive onslaught, a tsunami of misinformation, that has scared people from using lower risk products back into using lethal cigarettes”

VAPING NEWS: NEW ZEALAND [Flavour Ban]
“The Aotearoa Vapers Community Advocacy (AVCA) consumer organisation has slammed the New Zealand government for failing to consider a petition signed by thousands of vapers. Now, after the bill was rushed through to restrict access to flavours, the government will debate eliquid flavours. A big part of that evidence was on supporting smokers’ access to a wide range of vape flavours, as flavours have proven key to adults successfully quitting cigarettes. However, the legislation now passed will soon mean general retailers will be allowed to sell just three vape flavours. Only specialist vape stores will be able to sell a wide range of flavours. The vexed issue of flavours was central to AVCA’s petition that 17,357 people signed before it closed on 31 March. However, no MP bothered to present it during the bill’s process through the House”
