VAPING NEWS: CHINA [Fake JUUL Manufacturer Busted]

“Juul Labs helped Chinese authorities take down a manufacturer that allegedly ripped off its vapes and sold the fakes overseas. Shenzhen Kang Erqiang Electronic Technology Co. — which hawked bogus Juul vape devices and flavor pods under the name Sourvape Technology — sold about $324,000 worth of counterfeit items over a 16-month period starting in 2018, Juul said. The probe led to the August conviction of the Shenzhen factory’s operator, who confessed to his involvement in the scheme and was sentenced to more than three years in prison, Adrian Punderson, Juul’s vice president of brand enforcement said.”

VAPING NEWS: ESTONIA [Ordering From Online Foreign Vape Vendors Illegal]

“The Tax and Customs Board (MTA) has recorded over 1,000 e-cigarette violations to date, often the result of online ordering from overseas suppliers. “With the growing popularity of e-cigarettes, there is also more work for customs,” Meril Klaos, head of the MTA’s postal customs office, said. “We are seeing the people are unaware that e-cigarettes and e-liquids ordered by mail from foreign online stores are classified under prohibited goods,” she added.”

VAPING NEWS: AUSTRALIA [Australia Cancer Council & Heart Foundation Deceptive Lies]

“Cancer Council Australia and Australia’s Heart Foundation has issued a “fact sheet” to Australian politicians. The document is a shameless, ideologically driven list of lies and half-truths. They attack vaping as the best method for quitting smoking, the fact that vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking, and that it is mainly long-term smokers who have switched to vaping. They deny that traditional methods of tobacco control have resulted in smoking cessation flat-lining in the country. They claim experts all oppose vaping and that Australia’s approach isn’t out of step with Canada, New Zealand, Europe and the United Kingdom. Finally, they say the proposed medicalisation of nicotine will not result in job losses and vape shop closures.”

VAPING NEWS: JUUL [Devalued To $10B]

“Vaping company Juul Labs Inc. has cut its valuation to about $10 billion, an admission that the company once considered a Silicon Valley darling sees even more obstacles ahead. The latest valuation was as of the end of the third quarter, and it valued the company at $67.64 per share, Chief Executive Officer K.C. Crosthwaite said Thursday in a memo. The Wall Street Journal reported the valuation earlier. Juul had been valued at $38 billion in late 2018, when Altria Group Inc. took a 35% stake. Juul has since faced a series of regulatory setbacks and a raft of lawsuits from parents, school districts and state attorneys general.”

BILL TARLING — The onslaught of lawsuits from ambulance chasing shyster lawyers representing School Districts and Attorney Generals basically want to use deceptive claims to receive free money to reward the kids and youth for breaking the law. Great lesson to teach youth: “Why study or work for a living when you can make a fortune by breaking the law — and as a bonus, we’ll all get a cut of the money too for ourselves”

VAPING NEWS: EU SURVEY [80% Smoking Cessation Rate]

“More than 80 percent of smokers who switched to e-cigarettes have completely stopped smoking. Around 65 percent of vapers in Europe use fruit or sweet liquids. These are two important results of a survey carried out by the European Independent Vape Alliance (IEVA). More than 3,300 european e-cigarette users took part. The European survey shows: E-cigarettes are a widely used method in Europe to stop tobacco use. 81 percent of vapers have completely stopped using tobacco. Further twelve percent have reduced smoking with the help of e-cigarettes. The variety of flavors seems to be one of the most important reasons for vapers to use e-cigarettes. 40 percent of them use fruit flavored liquids and 25 percent prefer other sweet flavors. A good third of vapers select tobacco-flavored liquids (35 percent).”

VAPING NEWS: EU COMMITTEE SUPPORTS VAPING TO HELP FIGHT CANCER RISKS

“Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan needs bold action on tobacco, and MEPs must Back Vaping to Beat Cancer, according to the World Vapers’ Alliance. The Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA) today identified that ‘tobacco use, in particular cigarette smoking is the main risk factor for cancer death in Europe’. Vapers across Europe are calling on policymakers to recognise the benefits of vaping, and its potential to massively reduce the harm of smoking. Policymakers cannot ignore the facts any longer.”

VAPING NEWS: UK STUDY TO ANALYZE EXPERIENCE OF SWITCHING FROM SMOKING TO VAPING

“Gina Collins at the University of Exeter has approached Planet of the Vapes to enlist our help in a research project. Gina is looking for people who are about to or have recently switched from smoking tobacco products to vaping, and participants will be rewarded for their time. Gina Collins added: “While some of the health benefits of vaping compared to smoking have/are being researched, we feel that some of the wider effects of switching from smoking to vaping – such as how it might affect your sense of self and identity – are currently being overlooked. That’s why we want to talk to people at the very beginning of their vaping journey and speak to them over time to see if their views change.” The study will be conducted over a series of three online interviews to investigate motivation for quitting, motivation for vaping, and how switching from smoking to vaping might affect identity. Anyone interested in taking part can email Gina at gc376@exeter.ac.uk for more information.”

VAPING NEWS: AUSTRALIA [Nic Ban Defeated For Now]

““Huge news! The January 1st nicotine import ban has been defeated…for now,” declared Legalise Vaping Australia (LVA). The Australian Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) has announced that Greg Hunt’s plans to place a de facto ban on vaping has been postponed and advocates are hoping this could lead its permanent scrapping. Dr Colin Mendelsohn has been arguing for a more open-minded Australian approach to tobacco harm reduction for years. He recently told journalists: “Vaping nicotine has the potential to disrupt the cigarette market and significantly reduce smoking rates in Australia. However, excessively harsh and restrictive regulation as proposed by the Health Minister will reduce its potential impact and lead to more smoking-related deaths. No other western country requires vapers to have a prescription to obtain nicotine liquids. Low concentrations of nicotine liquid are not medicines. They are a safer consumer product used to replace an existing consumer product: lethal cigarettes.”

VAPING NEWS: BAT RESPONSE TO SCHEER COMMITTEE EU E-CIG REVIEW

“BAT has called on a European Commission scientific committee to enhance the quality of its ongoing review into e-cigarettes. The results of the review may pave the way for revisions to rules that affect millions of vapers across the EU. BAT’s response highlights major flaws with the methodology and conclusions of the review including that it: Fails to contextualize the risks of e-cigarettes relative to those associated with continued smoking. Makes inaccurate claims regarding e-cigarettes many of which have been widely debunked by the scientific and public health communities. Contains false assumptions that e-cigarette aerosol is the same as tobacco smoke. Neglects landmark independent studies showing that many smokers view e-cigarettes as an acceptable alternative to smoking. Relies on data from non-EU markets and studies on products pre-dating the current Tobacco Products Directive that are not relevant to the current EU context.”
