VAPING NEWS: CHINA CORONAVIRUS [Vape Product Manufacturers]
“Dimitris Agrafiotis, executive director of the Tennessee Smoke-Free Association and chief executive of Global eVapor Consulting, has found cause to worry about supply chain disruptions. Agrafiotis predicts that the virus will disrupt the supply chain for vaping products, including possible travel restrictions on factory staff in the city of Shenzhen – the critical point of production for the global e-cigarette industry, with more than 1000 e-cigarette factories operating.”

VAPING NEWS: SECOND GLANTZ PSEUDO STUDY CALLED FOR RETRACTION
“Last week, Stanton Glantz received a massive slap in the face when one of his research papers was retracted by a journal. Now harm reduction expert Clive Bates is calling for a second Glantz study, this one claiming to have found a gateway effect from vaping to smoking, to be withdrawn. Ignoring the fact that there is no real-life evidence that supports a ‘Gateway Effect’, and studies showing that precisely the opposite is happening, the trio juggled PATH data (which Glantz and his colleagues are now banned from) to ‘prove’, “among youth who had experimented with cigarettes but had not progressed to established smoking, additional use of e-cigarettes was positively associated with future onset of current established smoking.””

VAPING NEWS: ADULTS LIKE FLAVORS [Study]
“On February 6, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began to enforce a previously-issued policy on unauthorized flavored cartridge-based e-cigarette products with the goal of addressing the current epidemic of youth use of e-cigarettes. A new study by researchers at Penn State finds that adults enjoy sweet e-cigarette flavors just as much as teens, suggesting that the policy may have consequences for adults too. The researchers studied changes in flavor preference in a group of long-term, adult e-cigarette users and found that, over time, preference for the traditional tobacco, menthol and mint flavors decreased, while preference for chocolate, candy and other sweet flavors increased.”

VAPING NEWS: HAWAII [Flavor Ban]
“Several proposals to ban flavored tobacco products and e-cigarettes have advanced in the state legislature, a move that vape shop owners say would put them out of business. The first, Senate Bill 2228, prohibits the sale of flavored products for electronic smoking devices. It also would make it unlawful to ship e-liquid products or mislabel products that contain nicotine. The only tobacco sales permitted would be for adults at retail shops in person. The second, Senate Bill 2538, is a comprehensive ban that would prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products, mislabeling. It goes a step further by establishing fines and penalties and authorizes a court to require people caught in violation to participate in a tobacco education program and complete tobacco use cessation program. If a minor is convicted of possession of a tobacco product or e-cigarette device, then the bill proposes having the parents select among penalty options. Meanwhile, three floors above in the House Finance Committee hearing room, impassioned speeches were delivered in support of a flavor ban proposed in House Bill 2457.”

VAPING NEWS: PENNSYLVANIA [HB 2298 Casino Ban]
“A bill introduced in the Pennsylvania legislature would end smoking in the state’s 13 casinos and racinos. Democrat Dan Frankel introduced HB 2298 last week, which would seek to expand the Clean Indoor Air Act into casinos, bars, and private clubs. The expansion of that bill would effectively ban smoking in those locations. The bill would also prohibit using e-cigarettes in those establishments.”

A BATTERY MOOCH POST: Panasonic NCR1500A…no wrap on bottom, stay below 10W
This is an average performing 18500 cell that appears to have a 3.8A rating. The continuous current rating is not specified but the highest discharge level shown in the graph in a datasheet is 3.8A.
The capacity for the two NCR18500A’s I tested was 2060mAh and 2066mAh at 380mA (0.2C) down to 2.5V. This is fantastic consistency and is typical of cells from the major manufacturers. Panasonic rates them at 1900mAh at 20°C and 1940mAh minimum/2040mAh typical at 25°C. I am rating these cells at at 1940mAh.
The plastic wrap on this cell stops before reaching the bottom of the cell. The is no wrap anywhere on the bottom. I do not know if this could be a safety issue for any device. Do not use this battery unless you are sure it is not a problem.
Two cells were purchased for the purposes of testing by me.

I want to work for the vaping community full time! If you feel what I do is worth a couple dollars a month and you would like early access to battery availability, battery and charger testing and news, and a say in what I test, then please consider becoming a patron and supporting my testing efforts: https://www.patreon.com/batterymooch.
These tests only note the ESTIMATED ratings for these batteries at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” batteries or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.
Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of personal injury or property damage. They are not meant to be used outside of a protected battery pack. Never exceed the battery’s continuous current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition.
Any rating in my ratings tables can change at any time as different grade cells appear on the market, we get swamped with fakes, or new information becomes available to me. Please, never assume that the ratings in the tables are permanent and will never change! Always download the latest version before considering any cell purchase.

VAPING NEWS: NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA [Vape Tax]
“Vape products will begin being taxed in September and retailers will require a permit, the cost of which has yet to be finalized, in July. The vape tax, the second in the country after B.C., will include $0.50 per millilitre of liquid and 20 per cent of the retail value of all devices. For example, the taxes would amount to $10.40 for a $45 starter vape kit.”
BILL TARLING – They use the 20% tax on devices to make it seem like a lesser amount — they omit explaining that the tax would add a $30 tax to a normal 60mL bottle of e-liquid.

VAPING NEWS: WESTMINSTER, MARYLAND [Public Ban]
“Westminster has become the first city in Maryland to ban vaping in public areas. On Monday, the city council voted to make it official. The new ordinance doesn’t include restrictions on businesses like vape shops or cannabis dispensaries. Each violation after that could be punishable by as much as $500, along with the possibility of being considered a public nuisance, which could lead to other fines or penalties.”

VAPING NEWS: ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA [Vape Ban]
“The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will consider an ordinance Tuesday that would ban the sale of vaping products in the county’s unincorporated areas. The ordinance would build on the county’s tobacco retailer licensing ordinance, which the board adopted last month. Under the ordinance, tobacco retailers must meet requirements for pricing, packaging and retailing density and are prohibited from selling flavored tobacco products. The board is scheduled to consider the ordinance at its 9 a.m. meeting in the Alameda County Administration Building’s fifth floor board chambers, located at 1221 Oak St. in Oakland.”
