VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A LARGE INTERNATIONAL STUDY OF THE LONG-TERM EFFECT OF VAPING ON LUNG HEALTH
The VERITAS cohort study will be a 20-site, multi-country, 6+ year study of daily vapers who have smoked very little. The goal is to, for the first time, observe the health outcomes of exclusive vapers compared to controls with a history of no tobacco use. Outcome measures include clinical assessments of lung health, as well as self-reported health status and other measures.
To date, almost all assessments of the health of vapers have been among ex-smokers, where it is impossible to distinguish any small effects from vaping from the residual effects of long-term smoking. This study will allow us to test the hypothesis that vaping alone poses no measurable health effects.

Hey Phil, here is my “confirmation” email. Thanks for doing these contests, but more importantly THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!. You had a very big hand in my quitting smoking. I’ve been watching you for about 3 years(?) now. I found your videos when I first thought about vaping. Quit smoking after 24 years (you helped with that) and started vaping after watching your videos.
Thanks again
Travis

VAPING NEWS: BOULDER, COLORADO [Additional 40% Vape Tax + Flavor Ban]
“Beginning Wednesday, all vaping products sold in Boulder will be subject to an additional city sales and use tax of 40%. Nearly 80% of voters approved the additional tax last November. It applies to any refill, cartridge and component of an electronic smoking device. Additional measures to curb youth tobacco use were passed by City Council in 2019, including: Limiting any one retailer from selling more than two electronic cigarettes or four associated products including refills to any one person in any 24-hour period. Banning the sale of flavored vaping products (with a temporary exception for menthol-flavored products). After Jan. 1, 2020, the sale of menthol flavored electronic cigarettes in the city of Boulder is completely prohibited.”

VAPING NEWS: ONTARIO, CANADA [Flavour Restrictions, Nic Cap, Product Visibility]
“Regulations to curb youth vaping are taking effect on July 1 across Ontario. The changes include: The restriction of the sale of flavoured vapour products only to specialty vape stores and licensed cannabis retail stores. Convenience stores can only sell tobacco, menthol and mint flavoured vapour products. The restriction of the sale of vapour products with high nicotine concentrations (greater than 20 mg/ml) to specialty vape stores only. Specialty vape stores will no longer be permitted to have indoor displays and promotions that are visible from outside their stores.”

VAPING NEWS: INDIANA [Consequences Against The Youth Breaking Laws Removed]
“Senate Bill 1 bans people under 21 from buying or possessing tobacco, e-cigarettes or e-liquids, which is already a federal law. The bill also makes selling these products to underage customers a Class C infraction. Sellers will have to pay $400 if they violate the law, an increase from the previous $200 maximum fine. They will have to pay even greater fines if they received previous citations in the past year. The law also eliminates fines that underage customers paid for possessing the products.’
BILL TARLING — The only monitoring and ‘enforcement’ they appear to be interested doing is for retail stores — however legitimate retail shops is not where most of the kids get their products illegally. Removing any onus on the kids for breaking the law to begin with just gives that a clear signal that there are no consequences or penalties for breaking the law.

VAPING NEWS: CHICAGO [Flavor Ban]
“Starting next week, Chicago aldermen will debate the future of flavored tobacco products in the city. The Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association-Illinois Association of Convenience Stores successfully fought off a proposed ban on vapes, snuf and menthol last fall at the Illinois Statehouse. Now that the idea has reached City Council, the group is preparing to fight back. Illinois retailers and adult tobacco users are not the problem. In 2019, the revenue from the tobacco tax and the sales tax on tobacco was over $21 million. Mayor Lightfoot recently announced that the city is facing a $700 million budget shortfall.”

FROM REGULATOR WATCH – Ban Delayed | Australian Vapers Win Reprieve, Battle Is Not Over
Here’s the latest from Brent Stafford at Regulator Watch:
It was a surprise decision issued by Australia’s Minister of Health to ban the personal importation of liquid nicotine for vaping beginning on July 1.
The order was issued on June 19, leaving little time for harm reduction activists and a coalition of MPs to mount an effective challenge to a law, which many agree, could drive tens of thousands of vapers back to smoking.Under growing pressure, Health Minister Greg Hunt decided on June 27 to delay the ban on importing nicotine. However, the fight to legalize vaping is far from over.
Joining us today on RegWatch is Dr. Colin Mendelsohn, Founding Chairman of the Australian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association and member of the Expert Advisory Group that develops the Australian national smoking cessation guidelines.
Why did the Australian government issue the ban? What impact would it have had on public health? How did the vaping community mobilize against the ban? Were there surprising allies in the fight? And, what’s next in the fight to legalize vaping in Australia?
Find out! Only on RegWatch by RegulatorWatch.com.
