From Justin

Dear Phil,

This is merely a little note of thanks for the many hours of highly enjoyable
entertainment you have given me, as a viewer, these last 12 months or so. I came
across your videos as a “happy accident” and I have found them all to be very
amusing and highly informative. Even as a seasoned vaper of 4+ years now, I am still
continuing to learn something fresh each time you release a new piece of work (Your
method of pulsing and “dry seasoning” mesh wicks, for example, has been a God-send
for me). Not only that; but being a MMVapors DID owner, I recently bought a Smok
RSST after one of your recommendations and couldn’t be happier with it. Would I have
taken a risk on one had I not taken your word on its performance? Probably not. I’d
have forked out for another DID because I know what to expect… and it still work
outs cheaper than buying another duffer which would just end up in a drawer
somewhere. What swung it for me was that you use points of reference and direct
comparisons, which then enables the likes of myself to make an informed decision
based on our own experiences. The information you give is invariably sound and I’ve
come to trust your judgement on both devices and atomisers, as it’s been spot-on in
my experience.

As someone who likes to make videos, I can truly appreciate the time and effort that
goes into what you produce and I, for one, really value your gift to us all.

So, God bless you for all you do. I will continue to watch your reviews with great
interest and only ask that you don’t change a thing. The content, format and the
detail you go into is great as it is. I’d far sooner spend an hour watching you on
TV than what passes for entertainment on the box any day of the week. It’s
interesting to note that you state in your biography; “It has always been my goal to
provide good information and hopefully put a smile on your face somewhere along the
way.” As far as I’m concerned, you’ve succeeded on all counts and then some.

With best wishes

Justin

ORBTRONIC CONFUSION CLARIFICATION

I heard from some folks that the Orbtronic was the same cell as the Panasonic. I received some information from the folks at Orbtronic to clear this up…

NCR18650PD is flat top bare cell which is not compatible (obviously) with some
e-cigs. PD-2900 Orbtronic is Button top and it has been modified. FYI as soon as
weld machine touches Panasonic cell it is not Panasonic anymore. Example: Dell or
Asus notebooks use Panasonic cells for their laptop batteries and you will not see
that battery assembly is made by Panasonic. These are industrial batteries ready to
be modified by third party manufacturers.

We clearly posted that our assembly contains NCR18650PD on our web site, so it
shouldn’t be something that is “discovered” by some other secret channels.

Beside that we do make PD-2900-P model which is protected battery assembly.

Please clear this confusion with NCR18650PD (you can see it on our web site), it is
bare Panasonic cell FLAT top. PD-2900 is button top. Nothing is hidden or
re-branded. Everything is clearly posted on our web site.

MEET THE RUSSIAN

Look familiar? It should!

This is a clone of the Kayfun called “The Russian”. It’s supposed to have an improved valve (whatever that means… never used a Kayfun).

Please don’t email me on this one… I’ll be posting additional information here as I get it for you.

Can’t wait to try this one out… as soon as I can figure out how to put it back together! 🙂

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

So the poll is over and the results are quite disturbing.  35% or 610 of those who voted have experienced credit card fraud.   To me, this is a HUGE issue!

I don’t feel we should blame or throw any vendors under the bus.  I don’t think it’s their fault.  However, we can certainly blame the e-commerce and cc processing systems they are using.

I know this week MadVapes has sent letters out to people who have made recent orders.  Here is a copy of the letter I recevied from a vaper who wishes to remain anonymous:

Dear Madvapes Customer,

During this past weekend (6/14 2:00pm EST to 6/17 9:03am EST) our online processing incurred an unfortunate security breach. We value your business and respect the privacy of your information, which is why, as a precautionary measure, we are writing to let you know about this data security incident. This breach may or may not involve your credit card. Your order was placed however the credit card provided was never processed to pay for this order. The data accessed may have included some personal information specifically your shipping and billing address along with your credit card information. Unfortunately we needed to cancel the orders received during the security breach and have done so. You are receiving this letter because your order was canceled.

Madvapes values your privacy and deeply regrets that this incident occurred. Upon us discovering this we immediately took the necessary steps to implement security measures designed to prevent a recurrence of such an attack, and to protect the privacy of Madvapes valued customers. The company also is working closely with our credit card processing company to ensure the incident is properly addressed.

As a precautionary measure, we recommend that you remain vigilant by reviewing your account statements and credit reports closely. If you detect any suspicious activity on an account, you should promptly notify the financial institution or company with which the account is maintained. Some additional suggested steps you may want to consider immediately follows this letter.

If you have any questions regarding this or resubmitting your order please give us a call at 704.624.8551 between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00 EST.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and please know we are doing everything we can to prevent this from happening again.

Sincerely,

Madvapes, LLC

Note that MadVapes is, in fact, one of the companies I recently ordered from. Does this mean I won’t order from them anymore? Hell no. They are still my “Radio Shack of Vaping Supplies” 🙂

To the vendors, please research your e-commerce vendors and make them aware of what’s going on and what steps their taking to prevent this from happening.

To the vapers, be aware of who you’re ordering from and watch those credit card statements!

I’ve heard some folks mention using pre-paid cards instead of open CC cards to do their buying.

RESISTANCE WIRE CALCULATOR

I created a resistance wire calculator for myself and it’s been working pretty good so I decided to pretty it up a bit and share it with you guys.

It available to download by clicking the image below.  Excel is required.

It’s also been added to the tutorial section for setting up Genesis atomizers.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Enter the target resistance of the coil you’re trying to make in the first field.
  2. Use the pull down in the second field to select the coil type (currently supports single, dual, and triple
  3. Use the pull down in the third field to select the Kanthal gauge (currently supports 28, 32, & 34 – metric also displayed)
  4. The wire length in inches, cm, and the number of wires required will be calculated for you.
  5. It’s easy and funny.  (HA!  I crack myself up).

Note that the calculations are based on detailed resistance measurements of A-1 Kanthal I purchased from Temco on Ebay.  Depending on what your using, you may need to modify the calculations a bit.

If there’s anyone interested in turning this into a more complete web or Android app, please feel free!  Just let me know so I can post it here.

A LOOK UNDER THE TAIFUN HOOD

So I’ve been using this atty a fair amount since the build on May 24th.  The performance has been amazing and it’s quickly become one of my favorite devices.

I wanted to see what was doing under the hood so I took it apart for a dry burn, cleaning, and to replace the top wick.  I was surprised to find very little discoloration on the top wick (using EKOWOOL in it now).  She’s back together and vaping strong.

I want to see how long this coil and mesh wick last me.
