A NEW PAGE! REBUILDING

I get a great many questions about rebuilding devices so I create a new REBUILDING page…

Many people ask me questions about rebuilding, so I thought I’d create this page.  There’s not a lot of new information here, but I tried to pull information from other sections to this one in order to give you a “one-stop-shop” where you can get your questions answered.

Building takes time, patience, and practice when first getting started.  You are working with tiny coils and tiny places where you mount those coils.  If you mess up… DON’T SWEAT IT!  Just try it again.  It get’s easier with time and practice.

Friendly disclaimer… improper builds could leads to shorts or over tasking your battery.  This could lead to a battery failure.  Battery failure could lead to property or personal damage.  Is it likely to happen?  NO (with care).  Could it happen.  YES.  So be safe, understand what you’re doing, and do any build or use any electronic cigarette product at your own risk.

Hope it helps!

This was put together rather quickly, so feel free to contact me if you’d like to see any additional information, or if you have corrections to the page.

You can access it from the INFORMATION section in the left sidebar.

Like I said above… HOPE IT HELPS!

Phil,

I understand that you are probably really busy, so I am going to keep this short. I
just wanted to say thank you for your help in my journey. You do an incredible job
of making, what can be an overwhelming learning process, more accessible while still
giving a ton of detailed info that I appreciate as I have gotten more comfortable,
and your sense of humor makes it even better. As a guy that did a short stint of
Cigar reviews on a web site I had, I know the amount of work and dedication that
goes into this. It is GREATLY appreciated. Keep up the good work. If you are ever
anywhere near STL, look me up. I owe you a beer.

Hello,

Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you I enjoy your videos and they are very
informative. I am 40 years old, started smoking when I was 16. In my mid 30’s I
quit smoking for a while. Then I started dipping….then I started smoking when I
drank which snowballed into smoking more than when I was drinking plus dipping.
Bad, bad, bad! A friend started using an e-cigarette and suggested that I stop by
a newly opened vape shop in our area. I went there on December 28th before going
on a little get away with the family. I purchased a e-Go twist and Protank 2. I
started using it and still used the dip a little. On December 30th I threw away
the can of dip I had and haven’t looked back. It has been 3 weeks since I have
used any tobacco products. I went back to the vape shop and purchased a iTaste
SVD and another Protank and I can say because of your videos as well as others on
Youtube I am hooked on vaping and can honestly say I don’t miss the tobacco.
Thanks again for your informative videos and keep it up! Thanks again!!

Hi Phil,

I wanted to give a huge Thank You to you for your reviews and videos. I wish I had something like this when I first started out. I had to simply learn by doing/trying, which unfortunately had quite a few no so good outcomes. We’ve all had those, right?

I had been struggling with the Vaping and Smoking thing since electronic cigarettes came out in its infancy many … many moons ago. I decided to start vaping after my battle with a very aggressive form of thyroid cancer. I have been thankfully in remission for almost three years now. I was an on and off vaper because I could simply not find something that satisfied my cravings. I am proud to say that because of watching your reviews and your journey, I have been off traditional tobacco cigarettes for nearly a two months now.

I have become so entwined with vaping that I even make my own e-liquids. I have a group of friends that own their own brick and mortar shop and brand. They enjoy my liquids so much that they have asked me supply them a few flavors regularly. Your passion for vaping and quality has inspired me to possibly even open up my own online juice store with a focus on quality I can be proud of. I’m not entirely sure that I will pursue that road with everything going on in D.C., but I am strongly considering it based on what I hear from feedback.

Shesh; this went on longer than I thought for a simple thank you. So Thank You Phil for all of your reviews. I look forward watching your journey continue as I embark on my own. Who knows, perhaps I will be asking you to review my e-liquids someday. Take care and I look forward to seeing the upcoming videos.

Warm Regards,
~Chris

KAYFUN/RUSSIAN CONVERSION

Several people have asked me if the two section screw found in the Russian can replace the single screw design of the Kayfun in order to make the Kayfun’s pin adjustable without messing up the internal build.

The answer is… well… I haven’t been able to do it.

The problem I’ve run into is that each device has a different insulator at the 510 connection.

You can’t just switch the screw assemblies, you have to switch the insulators as well or the post on the Kayfun will stick out too far (see photos below).  The Kayfun’s is easy to remove, however the Russian’s is in there and GOOD.  I tried to use a drill bit to push it through, no luck.  Tried banging on the drill bit, no luck.  With the drill bit in place, I tried banging on the 510 connection with a Jewelers nylon mallet.  It moved, but I couldn’t get it all the way out.

Fearing damage to the 510 connection, the insulator (which you can already see is a little chewed up in the photos below from me trying to get it out), and the Russian itself, I gave up.

If anyone has been able to do this, let me know.

Thanks!

From John

Phil,
First let me say I was a smoker for about 17 years and tried to quit smoking in just
about every way possible for the last 10 years. Patches, gum, and cold turkey were
all tried, but none were successful. Then I saw a very simple ego kit being sold at
the gas station down at the corner, and figured lets give e-cigs another try, even
though the ones that looked like cigs, ala blu, didn’t work 2 years ago for me. OMG
what a game changer it was for me!!!!! My one resolution for this year was to get
healthier and that first step was to quit smoking. Well it’s been 3 weeks and no
cigarettes. I know its still early for me, but when just the smell of smoke on
persons clothing makes me a little sick, that is more than a positive sign. My
energy level is up, I sleep better and I can already tell things taste and smell A
LOT better. The other big advantage I have found is just the cost. I was spending
well over 120 on smokes a month and now a 10 mil bottle of juice last me a week and
at 9 bucks per bottle that savings is awesome. I just started looking into Mods,
clearomizers, RBA’s, and other tech out there and have found your reviews to be
extremely helpful and informative. I am a bit of a tech junkie and can tell the
extra cash I am saving from vaping will soon be going to all the shiny toys out
there. Your website is also a wonderful location for anyone to get started vaping
and has some of the best info on the subject I have found out there, and will be
recommending it to people I know that are looking for a way to get off of the cancer
stick. Keep up the great work advocating for this safer alternative to smoking.

P.S. I saw you are coming close to my neck of the woods on Feb 19th down in
Chattanooga, I hope to make it down there from Knoxville so I can shake your hand
and thank you in person for the help you have given me in starting down this
wonderful world of vaping.

From Paul

Typically, I post these in the “Success Stories section. But I can hope that Paul’s story, condition, message, and upbeat attitude can influence others as to why and when to quit smoking.

Hey Phil,

Thank you first for inspiring me to learn a higher level of vaping as far as
builds and devices.
But this letter is a hopefully short letter to tell you how i started vaping.
Last April I was diagnosed with lung cancer after 49 yrs of smoking. This was
on top of emphysema so I knew my road would be bumpy to say the least. The
doc asked if I smoked and laughing said yes. He said I need to quit smoking!
Of course I asked the same question anyone would “isn’t that like shutting the
door to the barn after the horse escaped”! Of course I just laughed. But he
said my treatment would be easier if I did. Well I went to Walmart and got some
fifty dollar kit and it took away my craving without having to quit smoking.
From there I went to ego style system and then an evic. I’m hooked on vaping.
I research all I can on your site and YouTube.
I wish I found this earlier I only have 6 to twelve months to live. But not
smoking has me feeling so much better. I can run up stairs and my mate admires
my stamina lmao.
I guess if there’s a message here its that there is no “too late” to quit smoking.
My quality of life is so much better since I found this alternative in April.
Thanks again Phil for all your helpful info. Oh BTW I did get that Aspire
Nautilus tank yesterday and my Hurricane Vanilla Sky is rocking it in that topper.
I know I’ll break that glass though!

Paul

Paul, my message to you… keep vaping, keep running up those stairs and keep LMAOing!! Thank you for your story.
