THE EVOLV SOFTWARE… ESCRIBE!

I have a lot of people asking me questions about the software for the upcoming Evolv DNA-200 board.

Up until now I haven’t been able to say much, but I’ve been permitted to release some screen captures of the software, known as Escribe.

Escribe is a software package used to configure, monitor and modify the operation of your DNA 200. It installs on a Windows PC and connects to your DNA 200 using the USB port. Escribe has a separate manual and tutorials which can be found on Evolv’s site.

I’m not explaining anything at this point, that will be part of the review, but please feel free to check out the screen captures below and use your imagination.

Before you ask, they’re looking into Macintosh compatibility and hope to have something ready by the end of the 3rd quarter (September).

Oh, and remember, if this all looks intimidating to you, which it certainly could, relax… don’t sweat it. Use of this software is completely optional. The board operates JUST LIKE the DNA-40. It’s still a very simple interface that can be operated by your device.

This software is for those who really want to get in there and play, tailor, investigate, analyze, personalize, customize, and just plain fuck around.

There are some full screen captures and some close ups as well. Click “FS” in the lower right corner of the gallery to switch to a full screen view.

Enjoy…

NEW IN THE QUEUE – THE VICIOUS ANT PHENOM EVOLUTION – 6/26/15

THE VISCOUS ANT PHENOM EVOLUTION

It doesn’t happen often enough for me anymore, but when it does, I love it! What is that? When I open up a piece of vape mail, look in the box, and say… “Oh Wow”. That was the reaction when I opened this piece.

This is the upcoming Phenom Evolution by Vicious Ant. One part 18350 mech, one part 18650 mech, one part DNA-40 box mod, all parts sexy.

The sets come with a box section featuring the latest version of the DNA-40 temp control board, an 18650 tube, an 18350 tube, plus a bottom firing switch and top cap to transform your Evolution Box mod into a Phenom mechanical.

This is a pricey set folks…

It will be available in Titanium ($450-$500), SS/Brass ($400-$450), and SS ($350-$400)

Some initial impressions…

  • I absolutely love the look of this one.
  • The quick release battery hatch is a pleasure to deal with.
  • The smaller DNA-40 screen looks dated on this beauty.
  • The switches on the box section have a little too much throw before they activate for my taste. Wished that activation point was up a little higher.
  • Would be nice if you didn’t need a tool to transform it into mech. but you do need to take out two screws on the bottom plate and remove it to get the tube out.   The screws aren’t a standard phillips or flat head, so that tool really should be provided.

EVIC-VT HEADS UP…

Ok gang, here’s something I missed in the review. It was missed because 1) when I was looking at the start/stop pause time on the scope, I was at a high enough wattage where the issue didn’t appear, or appeared as a slight ramp which was mentioned in the review, and 2) when using it in wattage mode, I was at a high enough wattage where is was noticeable, but not that bad for me.

Looks like, when in wattage more the eVic-VT has a 30 watt surge when you first fire it after 1) you take your atty off and put it back on, 2) the device goes to sleep after 3 minutes and wakes back up, 3) you power the device off and turn it back on.

I read a bunch of comment in the YouTube video that it was burning people’s liquids and wicks. Finally, after discussing it with Edward Wolff (thanks Ed!!) on Facebook tonight, I decided to have another look.

Ed’s test scenario was a 2.0 Ohm coil set at 6 watts. He said he could “hear” and feel the surge. Sure enough…

20150624_603231
This image shows the surge.  Should be firing at around 3.5V (for 6 watts) yet is surges to 8.16V (around 33 watts) and then ramps down to the accurate setting.

Even set to 1 watt, it does the same thing…

20150624_605221

Multiple button presses don’t help.  It needs time to settle…

20150624_605142
You can see here when set for higher wattage it becomes easier to miss…

20150624_605305

It does it for a fair amount of time as well.  The full 30+ watt surge lasts around .58 seconds and the total time to go from button press to an accurate setting is around 1.28 seconds…

20150624_605419
20150624_605459

I took a look at the .5 ohm, 1 ohm, and 1.5 as well. All peaking around 30 watts…

20150624_612656
20150624_612736
20150624_612820

Now, if you vape at or above 30 watts, it’s something you’ll never notice.  Here is is firing 30 watts after a power cycle against a 1 ohm load.  No issue…

20150624_613607
This has to change the overall rating from a “wait” to a thumbs down.  Hopefully this is something they can resolve quickly and take care of those who are unhappy with the product due to this issue.

This will be added to the post review follow-up within the review posting found here.

  • 6/30/15 – If you are concerned about it popping out of temp control, there are a couple things you can do.  1) Build your TC coil at .14 ohm or less.  So if it comes out, you’ll get a low resistance warning.  2) When in wattage mode, set your watts really low, so if it pops out, you won’t burn anything up!
  • 6/23/15 – The battery charged up to 5123 mAh:

THIS JUST IN FROM KANGER…

For those of you who have been asking me, Kanger has confirmed:

1) The Kanger K-Box Mini (you know, the one what comes in the Subox Kit) will be changed to a spring loaded 510 pin.  I’ll retest it and post the number when I receive it (as it’s also supposed to be more accurate). Spring loaded units will begin to ship in the near future.

2) The new RBA section that comes in the kit will be made available as a stand-alone piece for purchase on it’s own.

More information on pricing and availability as I get it.

SNEAK PEEK… THE INNOKIN DISRUPTER

THE INNOKIN DISRUPTER

Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming Disrupter from Innokin.  Sorry I wasn’t permitted to show you the connector.  I guess they don’t want it cloned BEFORE it’s released.  🙂

No word on price or availability yet.

From Innokin:

The Innokin Disrupter is the latest high powered advanced personal vaporizer and it is the first device to utilize Innokin’s revolutionary InnoCell Vaping Power System LiPo replaceable battery technology.

Safety is at the forefront of Innokin’s vision for a better future and device, battery and charging safety will continue to be one of the most important issues facing the international vaping industry.

With the goal of building a better, safer vaping power technology, our teams of engineers worked tirelessly to create a Lithium Polymer (LiPo) battery that’s better than the 18650; a goal that we are extremely happy to have accomplished with the launch of the Innokin Disrupter and InnoCell LiPo Battery.

The InnoCell is a compact high-quality LiPo battery pack with advanced integrated safety features like automatic short-circuit shut off, low voltage reserve and a much longer lifespan with an average of more than 300 charge & discharge cycles – at least 30% more than a standard 18650!

The InnoCell is charged via standard Micro-USB for maximum convenience and also features Innokin’s trusted ‘Vape-While Charging’ pass-through technology to ensure that your vape will always be ready.

The InnoCell will initially be available in 2000mAh and other capacities, with larger packs planned for the future. All are compatible with the Innokin InnoCell Slide’n’Click system; simply choose the charged InnoCell in the color that you like best and ‘Slide & Click’ the InnoCell securely into place to power a day of vaping.

NEW IN THE QUEUE – 06/19/15 – THE LAVATUBE 3

THE LAVATUBE 3

The boys from Volcano Ecigs are at it again.  Ah how fondly I remember the original Lavatube.  What a HUGE, wildly popular device that was… remember?  The “ProVari Killer”…. chuckle chuckle.

This time the guts are from Evolv.  It’s a DNA-40 with a different screen so you do get temperature limiting/control with this one.

The rubber grip and device width feel great in the hand, but the 26mm diameter is going to make it look a little odd with most of your attys and tanks… including their own (their Cauldron 1 dripper is shown in the photos on top of it).

And I gotta say, off the bat, I’m NOT a fan (not even a little bit) of the button placement and feel.  Although it looks pretty slick, they are WAY too close together and all at the same height causing big thumbed dudes (and dudettes)  to hit multiple buttons on a press.

For the specs on this one, think DNA-40.

Some additional:

  • Uses a single 18650
  • Lightweight 6061 billet aluminum body
  • Interchangeable rubber grips in a variety of colors
  • On-board micro USB charger
  • $149.00
