U.S. e-liquid manufacturers may have to pull millions of bottles of e-juice off of vape stores shelves following a surprise mandate, issued via tweet, by a recently appointed Republican Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission earlier this year.
The unexpected regulation covers e-liquids containing nicotine that are bottled without special “flow restricted” packaging—both plastic and glass—and comes with an immediate stop sale order that provides U.S. e-liquid manufacturers zero time to bring existing products and production lines into compliance.

When University of Waterloo professor David Hammond first shared preliminary results of his teen vaping and smoking study with Health Canada and the media in late 2018, he did so with the “hope” that his findings were just a “blip”; a sentiment he expressed at the time, and again in June 2019 when the study was finally published in the British Medical Journal.
What Professor Hammond and those he selectively shared the data with knew was that the study found a massive increase in the prevalence of teen vaping and smoking (among 16 to 19-year olds) from 2017 to 2018.

The sneak peek Hammond afforded Health Canada provided the regulator enough justification to launch a series of public consultations that are likely to end with new regulations, which may restrict adult access and choice of vaping products, in order to stem the so-called ‘epidemic’ of teen vaping.

In this special edition of RegWatch Dr. Chris Lalonde, professor of psychology at the University of Victoria, joins in an examination of the now public results, of what has become, a controversial study.

Does the study’s reported 45% increase in teen smoking square with newly released data by Statistics Canada (also in June 2019) that shows daily teen smoking is statistically near undetectable?

I “stole” the trustworthy Omegaette HH306A temperature meter from my day job testing station and have been using to measure vaping cell temperature during testing. It’s time to move it back permanently. It’s just too annoying moving it back and forth when needed. The other meters I have can be used but aren’t quite as accurate.

This gave me an opportunity to upgrade though to the Fluke 52 II, an incredible two channel meter. Especially when paired with tight tolerance thermocouples (temperature sensors) and an extra NIST-traceable calibration done before the Fluke was shipped to me. In the photo you can see two different sensors showing the same 26.8°C ambient temperature…just what I want to see.

You can see one of the temperature sensors on the upper right, with its “bead” tip circled in red. It’s this tiny tip that makes these thermocouples so great for measuring cell temperature. It responds very quickly to the changing cell temperature, it thermally couples itself well to the cell using a dot of thermal paste or thermal epoxy, and it’s easy to isolate from the effects of cooler ambient air using Kapton tape to mount it to the bare cell (wrap removed).

Exciting stuff? No, not really. 🙂

Just another step to ensure that the results I give you are accurate.

As we know, San Francisco in their infinite wisdom has banned the sale of electronic cigarettes to the public.

Today, I read an interesting response article from BBC News titled, “E-cigarettes: How safe are they?”
Although you can click the link to read the entire article, here’s a quote…

The UK government views e-cigarettes as an important tool to help smokers give up their habit – and the NHS may even consider prescribing them free to those who want to quit.

So there is no chance of sales of e-cigarettes being banned, as in San Francisco.

There, the focus is on preventing young people from taking up vaping rather than reducing the numbers of people who smoke.

A recent report from Public Health England found that quitting smoking was the main reason for people to use e-cigarettes.

It also says there is no evidence they are acting as a gateway into smoking for young people.

How is it that the UK understands and supports electronic cigarettes and their health benefits and the United States does not?
How is it we here in the United States we have to continue to fight tax after tax and ban after ban?

Could it be money?
Maybe it’s giving into special interest groups that make a lot of noise?
Perhaps it’s both and more?

I’m quite sick of hearing about keeping them from the children. WE HAVE TO SAVE THE CHILDREN!!

So are they saving the children in San Francisco or are they condemning smokers to death? Fuck’em I guess.

What if we had the cure to cancer in a bottle. Give that bottle to anyone over 18 with cancer and we save their lives. Give that bottle to anyone under 18 and it instantly kills them. So what do we do? Do we ban the bottle, or figure out a way so that only those over 18 get the bottle?

Look, no one wants to keep these products away from the youth than I do, so lets…

Enforce the laws!
Levy fines to kids, parents, supplying friends or family, and stores!
Shut those stores down!
Make arrests!
Figure out a way to shut down the supply chain to the children!!
Strategic strikes… not carpet bombing!

DO NOT ban a potentially life saving technology to adults who can make their own informed, educated, and mature decisions. Especially when it has yet to be proven that the technology has any serious harmful side effects other than maybe dry mouth and not dying of cancer.

What is going on in this country? This is absolutely ridiculous and should not be tolerated.
