The Smoker’s Show S02E20 – AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. POLOSA
Tonight on the show I’m joined by Bill Tarling as Dimitris tans his Greek ass on some Greek island eating some Greek food while sipping on Greek coffee!
We’ll be playing an interview I did with Dr. Polosa.
We’ll talk about EVALI… again.
We’ll talk about the CASAA donation campaign.
We’ll get a sneak peak at the new Innokin Sceptre.
The Smoker’s Show is a vape show not for vapers, but for smokers.
A show to get information about vaping, to debunk vaping myths, to discuss vaping terminology & technology, and to look, review, & provide starter kits for the transitioning smoker.
We urge all vapers to invite those they know who still smoke to watch the show!

VAPING NEWS: VAPING REMAINS A GOOD SMOKING CESSATION TOOL
“First came the news that tobacco or non-nicotine vaping products were not responsible for a string of hospitalizations and deaths, as originally publicized — instead, the primary cause was tainted THC in illegal marijuana vaping products. Second, two recent studies show positive trends in relation to teen smoking — the rate of teenagers smoking cigarettes has fallen dramatically, and those who have tried tobacco vaping products do not progress to smoking cigarettes. Third, banning flavors or restricting the sale of e-cigarettes may have an overall negative effect, as many users may simply return to smoking traditional tobacco products. The vaping industry will continue to educate consumers and fight to ensure that these products, which have improved the lives of 13 million American vapers, remain on the market to help future generations of smokers stop smoking cigarettes.”

2 BUCKS TO HELP CASAA? YOU CAN DO IT! MORE IF YOU CAN!
CASAA is one of those organizations 1) We should all be a part and 2) We should help out if we can.
CASAA is asking for YOUR HELP. With a very small donation, they can continue operations and expand them into the future.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
From CASAA:
To all of our members,All things considered, CASAA has had a good run. Since our inception in 2009, we’ve helped elevate the voice of consumers to a degree that top officials at the Food and Drug Administration make public statements acknowledging the benefits of vaping and other smoke-free alternatives. We need your help to keep this energy going.
As you well know, CASAA membership is free. We provide all of our services and information to the public without asking for much in return. We don’t sell our members’ data and we don’t put up paywalls. We rely 100% on voluntary donations. So when we tell you that we’ve seen an almost 40% decline in donations over the past year, understand that it means our ability to continue providing information and services is in grave danger.
In light of this, we are doing something we’ve never really done before: We are asking you, plainly and simply, to donate to CASAA. Today. Right now.
DONATE NOWThe truth is, if every person who opened this email donated just $2.00, we’d have the funding we need to stay operational for the rest of the year. If even half of those people signed up for monthly $2.00 donations, our operating costs would be covered, and we could start implementing plans for expansion.
What would expansions look like for CASAA?
- Let’s get some real lobbying power. Lobbying firms are expensive and for years consumers have been left to rely on industry associations to provide lobbying resources such as access to lawmakers and even seats at public hearings. We need our own voice in legislatures and we need to pay for it on our own.
- Expanded Programs. Prepping for spoken testimony, educational materials for lawmakers, and PR campaigns all require up-front investment of money and people power. More funding = more staff and more opportunities to reach people outside of the vaping community.
- Sustained defense against enduring threats. Just because the FDA is promising to crack down on non-compliant manufacturers after September 9, 2020, doesn’t mean that our fight is over. Anti-nicotine idealogues are pressuring all levels of government to enact stricter laws that are creating new problems and we need to be equipped to respond as well as proactively fix existing bad policies.
I know it might sound weird to say that after ten years CASAA is just getting started, but looking at it from a historical perspective we know that movements like this can take generations just to hit their stride.
Looking to the future, we know that there is already a mountain of bad policies that we need to tear down. We’re having that conversation today about issues involving race, law enforcement, and healthcare, so the time is ripe to broaden the discussion and include tobacco and substance use policies that require reform.
I hope it’s becoming clear that consumers are the number one stakeholder in the debate about tobacco harm reduction. While we can reasonably expect industry stakeholders to defend their businesses, the responsibility for standing up against discriminatory policies and ethical breaches among researchers falls at the feet of people who use nicotine. There is no one there to protect us and many who claim that they have our best health in mind are almost eager to dismiss us when we point out the consequences of their “protection.” We have to support ourselves and build our own movement.
Now more than ever, consumer support of harm reduction strategies is vital to improving public health and preventing expansion of the war on drugs to target people who use nicotine.
Thank you for all that you do,
Alex Clark

VAPING NEWS: UK [Leading Example Of Harm Reduction Laws]
“UK-style laws could convert more than 200 million smokers to vaping worldwide, according to research by the Consumer Choice Center. It says its findings reveal the potential for 76 million people to switch away from tobacco products in China alone. The Consumer Choice Center looked at 61 countries and highlighted that the United Kingdom’s approach to vape advertising, displays, and tax rate is an example the rest of the world should be following.”

VAPING NEWS: MISSISSIPPI [Tobacco 21 + Fines & Penalties]
“If the governor signs the legislation, Mississippi will increased the age to 21 to buy tobacco and vaping products and penalties will increase for selling to minors. In addition to penalties for sellers, minors will face penalties for possessing and use of e-cigarettes and other vaping products. Senate Bill 2596 conforms Mississippi law to new federal law to purchase tobacco and vaping products. Mississippi law currently prohibits use and sales of e-cigarettes and other alternative nicotine products to anyone under 18. If Gov. Tate Reeves signs SB 2596, the measure will increase the age to 21 to possess and purchase the vaping products. The bill is due from Reeves on Wednesday. He hasn’t indicated whether he will sign it.”

VAPING NEWS: U.S. SENATE [Online Sales Age Verification]
“The U.S. Senate on July 1 approved a bill to stop internet sales of vapor products to minors, reports NASC. Passed unanimously, the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act seeks to close the online loophole of e-cigarette sales to minors by applying the same measures that are required when traditional cigarettes are purchased online. The House passed its version of the bill last year. The legislation would require online sellers of e-cigarettes to ensure the carrier verifies the age of the recipient upon delivery. It would also require online sellers to collect and remit the appropriate state and local taxes. These measures are already in place for cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products purchased over the internet because of the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act, which Congress enacted in 2010. Given that the Senate bill is slightly different than the House version, the House will need to pass the Senate’s version before it can become law.”

VAPING NEWS: CHICAGO [Flavor Ban Stalled]
“A proposal by one of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s closest City Council allies to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products in Chicago stalled in a City Council committee after running into an avalanche of opposition. Owners of gas stations, convenience stores and tobacco stores — and the trade groups that represent them — showed up in force at the virtual meeting to accuse the City Council’s Committee on Health and Human Relations of “kicking them when they’re down.””

VAPING NEWS: ONTARIO, CANADA [New Vape Regs Now In Effect]
“New rules restricting the sale of most flavoured vape products have come into effect in Ontario. The rules mean most of the products can now only be sold at specialty vape and cannabis retail stores, which serve customers 19 and older. Products with menthol, mint and tobacco flavours are exempt from the new regulations, which came into effect Wednesday. The regulations also mean vapour products with nicotine levels higher than 20 milligrams will be limited to specialty stores. Those shops will also no longer be allowed to have indoor displays that are visible from outside.”

VAPING NEWS: BOULDER, COLORADO [40% Vape Tax]
“Beginning Wednesday, all vaping products sold in Boulder will be subject to an additional city sales and use tax of 40 percent. Nearly 80% of voters approved the additional tax last November. It applies to any refill, cartridge and component of an electronic smoking device.”
