And a cabal of careful researchers and tier-one organizations have been leading the charge.Today on RegWatch we are joined by John Britton, Professor of Epidemiology, University of Nottingham, and the former Chair of the Royal College of Physicians Tobacco Advisory Group. In 2016, Britton shepherded to publication RCP’s ground-breaking 200-page report titled “Nicotine without Smoke,” which emphatically stated that the risks of vaping are small and the benefits are great.
Join us for a deep dive into the science on vaping; an examination public health policies on vaping since the report; a hard look at anti-vaping opponents, the mainstream media, and the recent scares over the teen vaping epidemic and vaping-related lung-illness.

VAPING NEWS: FDA [PMTA Guidance]
“To help manufacturers navigate the PMTA process, FDA has finalized a guidance on how to complete it as correctly, efficiently, and cost-effectively as possible. Prior to finalizing this guidance, FDA had issued a draft guidance for ENDS manufacturers in May 2016. While the final version is very similar to the draft, there are a few significant changes that are important to know before submitting a PMTA. These changes have been primarily made to further explain the types of information that may help FDA determine if marketing a proposed new tobacco product would be appropriate for the protection of public health.”

VAPING NEWS: UK [Call For End Of Anti-Vaping Misinformation]
“Public Health England (PHE) released its evidence update on vaping just over a month ago, providing a warning that misinformation is causing a problem and preventing smokers from switching to vaping. The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has amplified the call for honesty when discussion tobacco harm reduction. PHE launched the evidence update by stating its advice remained the same: that smokers should switch to e-cigarettes to help them quit smoking, but non-smokers should not take up vaping.”

VAPING NEWS: JUUL [Leaving EU Market]
“Juul is preparing to leave five European countries within the year. The e-cigarette maker is reportedly planning to pull out of Austria, Belgium, Portugal and Spain in July followed by France at the end of the year. Austria’s, Belgium’s and Portugal’s markets are apparently too small in the first place. Juul enjoys relatively high sales in Spain and France compared to the rest of the continent, but not high enough to justify the costs of running a business there and the trouble of dealing with regulators. The European Union has stringent requirements when it comes to e-cigarette products, as the publication notes, requiring companies to stick to a nicotine limit of 20 milligrams per milliliter of fluid. Meanwhile, a single Juul pod can contain up to 59 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter in the US.”
