From Steve Forbes – Vaping Versus Tobacco: The Truth You Need To Know – “MISINFORMATION AND OUTRIGHT LIES”

Republished from the original article and video found HERE.

This segment of What’s Ahead tackles the mortally misbegotten campaign against electronic cigarettes. The attacks are factually false. Contrary to the antivaping narrative, e-cigarettes are the best, least harmful way for smokers to give up tobacco. By discouraging smokers from switching to e-cigarettes, antivapers are consigning hundreds of thousands—if not millions—of people to painful, premature death. While a growing number of teenagers vape, they are not moving on to cigarettes. In fact, cigarette smoking among teens has plummeted.

Contrary to what happens in the U.S., Britain encourages smokers to switch to vaping.

We should do the same.

TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY – A RESEARCH PAPER

This is hot off the presses from Renée O’Leary and Riccardo Polosa. Dr. Riccardo Polosa was kind enough to give an interview on the last Smoker’s Show.

This research paper may represent the new “manifesto” for THR. It is very comprehensive and yet easy to read also for non experts.

Purpose – This paper aims to overview the need for tobacco harm reduction, the consumer products that facilitate tobacco harm reduction and the barriers to its implementation. The worldwide endemic of tobacco smoking results in the death of over seven million smokers a year. Cigarette quit rates are very low, from 3%–12%, and relapse rates are high, from 75%–80% in the first six months and 30%–40% even after one year of abstinence. In addition, some smokers do not desire to quit. Cigarette substitution in tobacco harm reduction is one strategy that may reduce the burden of morbidity and mortality

There is conclusive evidence that completely substituting e-cigarettes for combustible tobacco cigarettes reduces users’ exposure to numerous toxicants and carcinogens present in combustible tobacco cigarettes. There is substantial evidence that completely switching from regular use of combustible tobacco cigarettes to e-cigarettes results in reduced short-term adverse health outcomes in several organ systems” (p. 11, emphasis in original)

From Dr. Farsalinos – Landmark study identifies cardiovascular benefits as early as 1 month after switching from smoking to e-cigarette use

A study published today in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) provides the most fascinating news for smokers who have managed to quit using e-cigarettes. Improvements in vascular function were observed as early as 1 month after making the switch. Similar improvements were observed for those using nicotine-containing and nicotine-free e-cigarettes, debunking a common myth (which has already been disproven through snus research) that nicotine contributes substantially to smoking-related cardiovascular risk. Even more remarkably, improvements in vascular function were observed even in those who did not completely quit smoking but substantially reduced their smoking consumption. This is another important piece of information, especially for those who still insist that dual use (which includes vapers who smoke one cigarette per day or smoke less than daily) has no benefit or may be associated with higher risk compared to smoking only.

FROM REGULATOR WATCH – Scientist Says Vaping Is “Shown Safe” | Lung Hysteria Is “Misleading”

Here’s the latest from Brent Stafford at Regulator Watch:

As hysteria over the so-called “vaping-related lung illness” proceeds unabated, the attack on science that supports vaping as a less harmful alternative to smoking is renewed in earnest.
Key findings of harm reduction science: vaping is 95% safer than smoking; nicotine is not carcinogenetic; vaping is not a gateway to teen smoking; and much more is systematically being undermined by a deliberate campaign to destroy vaping.

In this edition of RegWatch hear world-leading scientist Dr. Lion Shahab from the Institute of Epidemiology & Health, University College London address the what he calls the “misleading” hysteria over vaping-related lung disease and how a decade of use, by over 40 million vapers worldwide, shows vaping to be safe.

AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE – WELL, NOT REALLY

So the FDA has finally come clean on the real issue. We’ve known it all along, but now they are admitting it. Illicit tainted THC cartridges. Yes my friends, drug dealers have taken down the industry, not only in America, but all over the world.

But life is good right? I mean, with something like this from the FDA, we should be in the clear…

Statement on consumer warning to stop using THC vaping products amid ongoing investigation into lung illnesses

This is why today, we’re strengthening our message to the public in an updated consumer alert stating that they should not use vaping products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of the cannabis plant. Additionally, consumers who choose to use any vaping products should not modify or add any substances such as THC or other oils to products purchased in stores and should not purchase any vaping products, including those containing THC, off the street or from other illicit channels.

You can read their entire release HERE.

No, I don’t think so. The damage is done. Businesses continue to suffer. Businesses continue to close. Sales are down, not only in America, but all over the world as we’ve very clearly heard when we were in Greece, and now in France.

The fights against the bans need to continue. The calls into the White House and our representatives need to continue. The Twitter war must continue.

Right now, one of the most important things this industry can do is to come together and create a positive PR campaign for vaping. As I said, the damage is done, and it’s going to take a long time, a lot of work, and a lot of money to regain consumer confidence in vaping. We know how good it is. The rest of the world needs to know it as well.

From Doctor Farsalinos: The witch hunt against e-cigarettes continues while people get sick from illicit THC and remain uninformed

A good read from Doctor Farsalinos…

It is ironic to realize that today’s period of information revolution has not only improved access and education for everyone but has also resulted, in many cases, in an unprecedented spread of misinformation and confusion. Take for example the recent case of e-cigarettes and lung disease cases, a story that will be listed in public health history books as one of biggest campaign of misinformation and public deception ever. An immoral “moral panic” campaign based on fiction, intimidation, terror, confusion and misinformation.

It is unfortunate that people who have no expertise in this matter and rely on the media and experts to receive valuable information and make informed decisions are passive receivers of the most irrelevant, unreliable and confusing information they can possibly receive.

Public health expert on e-cigarette panic

From CBS News:

Researchers are working hard to determine the cause of more than 500 reported cases of lung illness affecting e-cigarette users. But even before this outbreak, e-cigarettes divided the medical community. Public Health England describes e-cigarettes as “at least 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes” – a claim New York University professor David Abrams agrees with. Abrams tells “CBS This Morning” Tony Dokoupil why he’s concerned about what the current panic about e-cigarette safety could mean for public health.
