WICK TESTING

A PBusardo Video – Wick Testing

In this video we take a look at 4 popular wick materials…

  1. Organic Cotton Balls
  2. Hemp
  3. Japanese Cotton Sheets (Koh Gen Do)
  4. CelluCotton (Rayon)

We talk about them, wick test them, burn them, taste them, vape them and talk all about them.

This is certainly not the end all, be all list of wicking materials, but it’s some I’ve been using to easily wick, remove, and re-wick my coils.  Sorry I didn’t have the time to get “Cotton Bacon” in this round.

The Post Review Follow-up:

The Video:

  • 7/23/14 – Something not elaborated on in the video was ease of use. I thought they were all pretty easy to use when it came to wicking. The hemp bunched up at times when working it through the coil, but it wasn’t a big deal. Remember to cut the Japanese Cotton along the fibers. This will make it wick better and make it stronger for working it though your coil.
  • 7/23/14 – I got a fair amount of “popping” from the Rayon, this usually tells me that not enough material was used. Since the Rayon doesn’t seem to expand as much, you may want to keep that in mind and be sure you have enough of it through your coil. Make sure it’s nice and snug in there.

A DEVICE FOLLOW-UP – THE RADIX SWITCH ISSUE

A PBusardo Follow-up – The Radix Switch Issue

This is an unfortunate issue for me as I’ve been a fan of the Radix since I received it. However, it’s what I do, and if it’s happening to me, it could potentially happen to you. Hopefully this issue is limited to my own. If it’s not, perhaps Carbon Method can find a solution or a replacement switch.

This will also be added to the original review section for this device.

From Melany

Hey Phil, so I’m guessing you probably won’t read this but I figured I would give it a go!

My name is Melany and I quit smoking in 2010. I started watching your videos last year and you have gotten me through so many days when I just wanted to quit vaping and go back to cigs. I don’t know if you’ve had those days, but sometimes this whole vape thing got overwhelmingly confusing and it seemed like cigs were so much easier.

But then I watched your videos and you broke it down for me and you made me understand how they work and WHY they work. That is a priceless thing.

I know you don’t do videos for money but if anyone deserved to make money from informing the masses it’s you. You have a warm, inviting tone and remind me of my family back in NJ! (sadly living in St Louis now!)

I just want to tell you that if you EVER have that thought “I can’t do this anymore!” and want to quit your videos please remember people like me. You helped me so much and you didn’t even know who I was! Those videos are the holy grail for me and I look forward to your videos every day!

Thank you, Phil. Thank you for being a friend even though you never knew who I was. I hope your day (and life) is great!

From JMC

I just watched your post with your presentation in Vegas. Thank you! Thank you for that trip through vaping history. Though I wasn’t involved or even knew of it at the time, I feel like it is a part of my life from how important vaping is to me. I have done the searches and read the information and watched the videos. Vaping stopped me from smoking. Vaping may save my life.

Both of my parents smoked. I protested all the way through my school years. Then I became a senior in high school. I took my guitar to parties. I drank too much. I smoked ciggies because that nicotine buzz sure went well with a few cold beers, besides, it looked cool popped in the string above the nut of my guitar ala Eddie ( you know what I mean).

All of a sudden I’m off at college and I now smoke a pack plus a day. I was now a full time smoker. That was 1990. BTW…I had so much fun the college politely asked me not to return!

2014: I smoke my last cigarette on 4/20. A coworker and friend had recently gone from the Blu to the eVod. Hmmmmmm….this seems to work. On that day(4/20/14), I bought an evod kit (2 batteries, 2 kanger evod clearo’s and a USB charger. Oh yea…30ml of butterscotch 12mg). I swapped it up that night. My last couple cigs were left on 95 as I got off my exit ( I know….littering and all) and went home, had a drink and went to bed with my wife. The next morning, instead of heading outside for a smoke, I went to the basement and had a vape. I have had one close call since. Out at the bar, battery died and having a nic fit. It sucked. I held out as long as I could and bummed a CIG. The first puff made me cough. My stomach turned upside down. I found myself fleeing the smokers to find a trashcan…and PUKED! HARD!

I CANNOT, WILL NOT SMOKE! I need my vape to get me through. I have made it down to 6 and occasionally 3mg juices.

I have a hobby (building and rebuildables). I help others get started, recommending what worked for me. Helping them learn to wrap kanthal when they progress from their evods and aspires. I help people stop smoking. Much the way you helped me.

There is another thing in our community that doesn’t get much talk: paying forward. We help save lives (hopefully). We help other smokers leave tobacco behind. Sometimes it is curiosity that gets them to try ( does that really work?)
Most smokers don’t want to smoke anymore, but leaving it behind is scary. How will I cope with blah blah blah??? The fact is YOU CAN LEAVE IT BEHIND!

THROUGH VAPOR!!!!

I wrote you a while ago to thank you for the info and inspiration. Now I thank you for representing us!

Thank you for making it matter and thank you for saving lives with your “teacher’s way”. Don’t stop fighting and “keep on vaping”

From Ray

Hello Mr Phil!

Just wanted to drop a line to say thank you so much for all your great information.
I’m now a happy vapor (6 months analog free) because of what I learned from your
videos. No need to respond, I know you’re busy with your wicking test (and I’m
excited to see the results).

All the best,

Ray

MY TALK AT THE VEGAS VAPE SUMMIT

This is the talk I gave at the Vegas Vape Summit. I had hoped they would have shown the slides I put up on the screen as well as the video segments. Looks like the captured the first, but not the second. They must have though me walking back and forth was more interesting than the video that was playing. 🙂

If I get some spare time (HA!!!) I’ll see if I can edit in the slides and second video for you.

I try to tie together a few things in this talk…

  • The history of electronic cigarettes.
  • My journey with electronic cigarettes.
  • How the FDA regulations has the potential to suppress innovation.

Funny how much easier it is to talk to 70,000 of you from the privacy of my basement over a several hundred of you up on stage! 🙂

Here’s the original cut…
