VAPING NEWS: OREGON [Vape Tax]

“Backers of Measure 108 hope broad, bipartisan support and a well-funded campaign will push the effort to increase taxes on cigarettes and create a tax on vapes to victory in November. A “yes” vote establishes a tax on nicotine inhalant delivery systems, such as e-cigarettes and vaping products which are not currently taxed. The funds from the tax increase would be used for public health programs including smoking prevention and cessation programs. The funds from the tax increase would be used for public health programs including smoking prevention and cessation programs.”

BILL TARLING –So the Oregon Gov’t  intent is to con the public into voting support for penalizing the most successful product used in creating ex-smokers with an additional tax in order to supposedly use that cash grab revenue towards getting people to stop smoking [which is what the vape products were already accomplishing]

VAPING NEWS: EU COMMISSION OPPOSES DANISH FLAVOR BAN

“The European Commission has opposed a ban on vaping flavors put forward by the Danish government, according to the U.K. Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA). Denmark wants to introduce a flavor ban on both nicotine and non-nicotine containing e-liquids, where only tobacco and menthol flavors will be permitted. According to the Danish Vapers Association (DADAFO), the proposed ban would have affected between 85 percent and 90 percent of adult vapers in Denmark with the potential of driving up to 70,000 Danish ex-smokers back to cigarettes. The move would have also forced 90 percent of vape shops to close, DADAFO said.”

VAPING NEWS: STATE RANKED VAPE REGULATIONS

“The Consumer Choice Center (CCC) has published an index ranking each U.S. state on the consumer-friendliness of its vapor regulations. Rankings are assigned based on a legislative actions, including restrictions, taxation, and online sales prohibitions. According to the index, California is the “worst state for vaping.” New York, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are also among the least consumer-friendly states. Excessive flavor bans, taxes, and prohibitions on online commerce grow the black-market sector and harm consumers who want less harmful alternatives to smoking. If states want to innovate in 2020 and provide adult smokers with an alternative that is less harmful, they should look to reform their state laws to better accommodate this new technology that is helping millions.”

NOTE: Colorado will likely plummet in the near future, as they have heavy vape product taxation on the election ballot under Proposition EE, and are also pushing for complete flavor bans. In fact, under their proposed regulations, cigarettes would be taxed at a lower rate than vape products, and they admitted they are intentionally taxing the vape products in order to cover their budget shortfalls which they mismanaged.

VAPING NEWS: FRANCE [Public Misperception About Nicotine & Vaping]

“Last year, a survey conducted by French vaping advocacy group SOVAPE discovered that 45% of French adults thought that vaping is as dangerous as smoking and 80% believed that nicotine is carcinogenic. It has just released findings showing now a shocking 75% of French people do not know that vaping is less dangerous than smoking. VAPING NEWS: ANTI-VAPING FLAVOR BANS PUSHING PEOPLE TOWARDS DANGEROUS BLACK MARKET

“The recent Yale findings are consistent with the CDC research: locally brewed, unregulated products increase the risk of EVALI. This does not bode well for the e-cigarettes and flavor ban crusaders. By pushing people into the black market for flavored products, they are increasing the risk that we will see another wave of consumers sickened by unregulated, illegal goods. “Flavor users will have no idea what is in these black-market products and we could very well see another wave of lung injury and deaths as people turn to the streets to buy their flavored e-cigarette cartridges.” Many of these folks are simply trying to stay away from toxic combustible tobacco products but public health advocacy groups, anti-vape advocates and nanny state politicians are pushing them in a dangerous direction.”

VAPING NEWS: WHO ANTI-VAPING CAMPAIGN USING RETRACTED BOGUS STUDY

“The WHO continues to use taxpayer resources to promote projects that are not only simply contrary to science, but are downright dangerous and hinder (rather than help) public health around the world. A recent example of this is a new campaign by the WHO attempting to “warn” persons of the danger of reduced risk alternatives to deadly combustible tobacco, such as electronic cigarettes. This particular ideological obsession by WHO bureaucrats has puzzled public health experts, given that the world’s leading health authorities have determined vaping to be 95 percent safer than smoking, and is a quitting aid three times more effective than more traditional nicotine replacement therapies. Particularly egregious was a new campaign launched last week by the WHO to promote a claim that vaping causes heart attacks. To support this campaign, they cite research by former University of California academic Professor Stanton Glantz. This study, however, has been completely debunked and retracted by the journal where it was first published, after it was discovered that the heart attacks in the study took place prior to the users commencing vaping. As such, absent the existence of time-travel devices,  it is simply impossible to conclude that vaping causes heart attacks. Despite the scientific malpractice of Glantz, the WHO chose to use it to support a campaign.”

VAPING NEWS: NETHERLANDS [Plain Packaging]

“Any cigarette and shag tobacco products sold in shops around the Netherlands may only be provided in muddy-colored brown and green packaging beginning on Thursday. From 2022, the policy is also slated to take effect for cigar and e-cigarette packaging. This policy was put in place to prevent manufacturers from successfully marketing their products to younger people by using flashy colors, cartoon characters, heroic imagery and stylized logos. “So you no longer see the well-known logos of camels or cowboys. The color was selected because research showed that the particular shade of color creates a negative impulse in consumers, and could deter smokers from making the purchase.”
